Take Vitamins to Mitigate Mental Illness
The concept of nutrition and mental illness is not a particularly popular topic. Many people cannot readily make the link between mental health and nutrition. The simple fact though is that proper nutrition boost optimum biochemistry within the body and the brain. The brain in turn facilitates moods and mental processes, and naturally benefits from proper nutrition as well.
You may not be aware of the fact that mental illness is one of the more common illnesses that plague one’s health in America. The fact that this may not be common knowledge is due to that fact that a lot of individuals remain undiagnosed and untreated. If you think about the prevalent lifestyle that most Americans indulge in, it is not hard to see why more and more individuals suffer from mood disorders.
Individuals live increasingly isolated lives because of excessive dependence and misuse of the internet and television. Health and nutrition suffer from the fast food mentality which is a result of a highly hectic lifestyle.
Without discounting the fact that some instances of mood disorders are genetic, there is still no denying the fact that proper and better nutrition can help us combat illnesses and improve our health, including that of the mental realm.
As we all know, the substance called serotonin is greatly linked with moods and depression. Some individuals have been found to be predisposed to suffer from low levels of serotonin in the body which results in the inability to control emotions and moods and more likely will suffer from mood disorders.
Did you however know that serotonin is found greatly in our gastrointestinal tract and is produced in our gut? Given this fact, it is important to seriously consider the link between major depression and nutrition.
Truth of the matter is, life is not always a piece of cake. Every moment is an opportunity for something to not go as we planned and therefore cause us to be unhappy. Despite this though, we as sentient beings should be able to choose whether to be happy or unhappy given certain stimuli. The inability to choose to be happy is the major consequence of mood disorders.
If you are not diagnosed with clinical depression but still suffer from sadness and a general lackluster attitude towards life, you may want to try to improve your nutrition to improve your mood. Afterall, although the concept of a link between major depression and nutrition is not yet well established, there is no way to lose from a conscious effort to improve one’s health and nutrition.
Start better nutritional health by adopting a well balanced diet. Don’t forget to take supplements because it may be difficult to get all the proper vitamins and nutrients just from the food we eat.
If you do enough research, you will see that taking vitamin B complex has the benefit of improved moods. Individuals who are not vitamin B deficient have better faculties to fight depression and anxiety.
It is important not to dismiss the link between major depression and nutrition because it actually makes sense to protect physical and mental health through the proper nutrition. We are all familiar with the saying that we are what we eat and that adage also applies to occurrences of major depression linked with poor nutrition.
