Depression Hurts, Not Only Emotionally
But Physically Too!
Depression
hurts. It really hurts. Whilst the pain can be most
obviously inside (and this is the factor which those in
the outside world think is the most harmful) - it can also
bring pain to one's outer world. To explain, depression is often thought of as something which
can only be dealt with on the inside, people tend to
ignore the factors which are affected in the sufferers
physical world.
He/she may
begin to lose touch with friends and become more aloof to their
general social life. Relationships with family can also suffer
and their general world view can become a much darker affair.
For instance they may think the world is out to get them. They
may feel like they're trapped in a job from which they can't
escape when in fact this world is a creation of their own
making.
Not only that
but the sufferer can be actually physically hurt with symptoms
such as migraines. This, in turn, can affect sleep patterns,
which will of course impact on the next day forming a vicious
cycle where the sufferer never has enough sleep and constantly
feels ill. Another side effect of the lack of sleep is that
seretonin levels can become so low that the brain finds itself
trapped in a low level of depression unable to drag itself out
of the pit.
You may also
find that you start getting severe stomach aches and these too
can affect your day to day routines. This could prevent you
from eating as well as you're used to and thus losing wait and
feeling dreadful overall.
Going
further, scientists have proven that depression may actually
affect growth of the bones. If under severe depression the body
may not be able to build bone as well as it should and this
could in some cases lead to osteoporosis!
Lastly,
depression hurts the body so much that the body can turn on
itself. Red lesions may arise over the body as the immune
system is broken down by this insiduous mental disease. The
dark cloud can affect the body in such a way that it loses its
power to ward off invasions of the body that one would
otherwise have no problem dealing with. I hope you can see now
that depression affects the mind, which in turn affects the
body, eventually giving harmful effects to the sufferer's
entire life.
