Bipolar Depression Symptoms-And How to Treat
Them
Bipolar mood disorder
has been described as the way in which a person switches
between being manic and depresive. This movement from one state
to another can really affect the personality of that person,
not to mention their behaviour. There are a few common symptoms
that we can recognise as the result of bipolar
depression.
Bipolar depression
symptoms
First of all
the manic mode. When in this state patients have described
feelings of euphoria and extreme pleasure. This can lead to
extreme bouts of creativity and indeed many great artists and
writers have been diagnosed as "suffering" from manic depessive
disorders.
On the other
side of the coin bipolar depression sufferers may also talk
almost non-stop and yet feel that they are having a hard time
getting their poitn across. Moving away from the good points of
being extremely creative, it's also possible that a sufferer
can become hostile with a tendency to vandalise and even
hallucinate upon ocassion.
When those
people hit the bottom end, the deep depression if you will, the
person can lose all hope, lose interest in his work and family
and exhibit a need to sleep throughout the day. They almost
switch off from life completely. More physical symptoms can
include headaches and stomach aches.
Treatments available
So how can
one go about treating such a problem? SSRI's otherwise
known as Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors have
proven to be effective. These increase the use of serotonin - a
low level of which has been found to be one of the main causes
of depression. Medication combined with forms of therapy are
generally believed to be the most effective
combination.
